NLMK USA is looking for a Logistics Manager in our Procurement Department for the Farrell, Pennsylvania location (NLMK Pennsylvania). We are dedicated to providing our employees with a safe, stable workplace where teamwork, attention to detail and quality customer service define our culture.

This position is responsible for all the inbound and outbound company transportation activity. The person will lead, develop, implement and coordinate processes that will determine the most productive and efficient mode of service for all shipments. The position will assist in shipping claims, analyze data, lead carrier negotiations, monitor carrier performance, monitor international shipping activity and provide internal guidance to the organization on traffic matters. The position reports to and receives direction from the Director, Corporate Procurement, but will have substantial interaction with many other company departments.

Job duties

  • Work with appropriate groups to identify optimal freight contract terms and arrangements to maximize profits and minimize liabilities. Develop processes to review options by supplier/ customer (or by the appropriate detail level) and implement profitable opportunities. Analyze and recommend mode optimization opportunities
  • Conduct periodic freight lane analysis to prioritize traffic opportunities to include factors such as customer locations, vendor’s locations, carrier capabilities, volumes, product considerations and other issues
  • Carrier management. Determine most efficient and economical routing for outbound shipment. Lead role with carrier negotiations.
  • Inbound freight management for raw materials and MRO supply
  • Manage accessorial costs and processes
  • Monitor carrier performance on an ongoing basis. Work with the appropriate areas, such as Finance, Production Management, Customer Service, I.T. and others to develop, implement and report carrier performance measures.
  • Publish/update routing guide and rates, ensure that updates are communicated to all internal and external users.
  • International freight programs-inbound. Develop tactical policies that are communicated to internal users. Implement mechanisms to effectively track/report all international activity costs.
  • Exports/ Imports: Develop, implement and monitor process to control shipment costs and minimize liability. NAFTA Certificates
  • Monitor, redesign and implement improvements to process.
  • Develop strong business relationships with carriers, vendors, international custom-house brokers. Key contact with the carrier industry and will have involvement with counterparts at key suppliers and customers.
  • Develop strong relationships with internal business partners
  • Engage in collaborative strategic sourcing with internal customers, Commercial and Procurement Departments respectively
  • Understand industry trends and issues
  • Invoice & Rate Resolution
  • Collaborate with Global Logistics Department to enhance and monitor supply chain requirements
  • Develop new enhanced logistics/traffic reporting tools
  • Manage all insurance requirements on shipments
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives to align with company goals
  • Ensure NLMK USA’s logistics services are in compliance with all existing regulations by staying knowledgeable of current regulations (Dept. of Transportation, U.S./International Customs)
  • Understands lane local, regional and state toll & permitting requirements across customer base
  • Travel occasionally as business needs dictate

Job requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in traffic/transportation management and analysis
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Strong negotiation skills along with project management skills
  • Must possess high ethical standards and have the ability to work within Company’s Code of Ethics and Business Policies

  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work well and collaboratively with cross-functional teams at all levels, internally and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of steelmaking processes & practices
  • Able to work independently
  • Possess strong computer skills including experience with Oracle and Microsoft Office
